April 2024 Read-a-thon

Today is Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-thon!  One of my two favorite days of the year.   This year I finished a series last night - so I went to my TBR jar and picked 4 new books.  I am a mood reader and some I need to get from the library so it is better for me to pick more than one book.  I picked:

Fractured Truth - Susan Furlong

The First Ladies - Marie Benedict

Savage Lover - Sophia Lark (but this is book #3, so really I will start with Brutal Prince #1)

Weyward - Emilia Hart

I may also decide to read:

Just for Summer - Abby Jimenez

I love this series and this book just came out.

April 2024 Dewey's Opening Survey
1) What part of the world are you reading from today? Cincinnati, OH
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? Fractured Truth as it is written by someone I was in a book club with years ago.
3) Which snacks are you most looking forward to? I haven't done much prep for this read-a-thon so I didn't get specific snacks. Probably my iced coffee and maybe a Starbucks run...we will see...
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I will be listening to books while I diamond paint.
5) What are your goals for this readathon? Finish a book and minimize interruptions from my 3 kiddos.

1:15pm Update- Fractured Truth - Chapter 11; eating Chik-filet for lunch and then going to try to do a 1 hour sprint until I have to meet up with one of my kiddos to help her write thank you cards for the High School Theatre cast - they have student stage managers :) Since the read-a-thon has moved stuff to Discord I am not up on all the challenges and things unless they are on Facebook.

Final Update read for another hour and then went to help my kiddo at the HS theatre. Stayed and watched Mama Mia and no more reading done :(

Sunday finished Fractured Truth - so I did get a book read this weekend :)

Hi! I am Darcie, I previously had a blog at www.readingderby.blogspot.com, but haven't posted there in so long I can't remember the password and through changes in google have no idea how to retrieve it. So I am starting over.

My motivation to start over is that I need to rejoin the reading challenge community to get my reading up! I am getting very distracted by: my kiddos (3), facebook, TV, and candy crush. I have been a life long reader and have tracked my reading since 2009. When I joined challenges and focused on reading I would read 70 books a year. Last year I read 26. Yikes. So this year I am aiming to double that with 50! I have many competing priorities including leading my 2nd grader's American Heritage Girl Squad and Coordinating the troop of 50, but I am hoping in making reading a priority again I can get my numbers up. That being said I also have an infant, so my goals may change, but hey this is supposed to be a fun streach goal! I hope to read many great books this year...and oh yeah I am an avid audio book listener!! So probably more than half of my books will be audio. Stay tuned for the challenges I am joining and things I am doing with my girls (7 and almost 5) to get them to love reading. I have some ideas to modify some of the challenges I am doing for my 7 year old.

I choose the name Reading with Ms Darcie because I love the reference to Pride and Prejudice - one of my favorite movies (the A&E Collin Firth version) - ironically enough I haven't read the book - maybe I should make that a goal this year.  I like the play on my name - like Mr Darcy.
